I will try to take the first 2-3 minutes at the beginning of each class period to concentrate on a quiet, deep breathing exercise. During these exercises students will be taught to visualize a quiet, safe place, to envision goals; and calm nervous tension. These meditations may be a bit difficult at first. I maintain the philosophy that students must still their minds in order to learn. Before you can still your mind, you must still your body. I greatly appreciate the support I have received from parents with this. Throughout the year we will discuss: focusing, personal affirmations, beliefs, fears, reflection, expectations, self-criticism, confidence courage, selflessness, conscience, motivation, integrity and persistence. These concepts will be woven throughout the lessons as I teach Learning Strategies and Social Personal skills.
