* I try to give a new philosophy everyday.  I copy it onto the board and introduce it to the class.  I encourage students to copy these quotes down and reflect on them.  Sometimes quotes will be related to important figures discussed in History, Science, Math and Language Arts.

Some of the philosophies I've given so far are as follows:

"Let go of anger-it is an acid that burns away the delicate layers of your happiness."

-Unknown

"It is easy to be the person you have always been, for it requires no change, no self-reflection, and no growth.  It may appear that changing yourself requires giving up something.  In reality, there is no need to give up anything-you must simply add to what has been."

-Unknown

"Fall seven times, stand up eight."

-Japanese Proverb

"Nonviolence requires more courage than violence."

-Mahatma Gandhi

"This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belopngs to the earth.  All things are conncected like the blood that unites us all.  Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it.  Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."

-Chief Seattle

"Misfortune comes from one's mouth and ruins him, butr fortune comes from one's mind and makes him worth of respect."

-Nichiren

"Endeavors accomplished quickly and easily rarely endure."

-Unknown

"Nothing exists entirely alone; everything exists in relation to everything else.  Where there is light, there is shadow; where there is birth there is death; where there is open there is closed; where there is one there is the other.  By the same reasoning, where there is sadness, there is joy; where there is delusion, there is enlightenment."
