Course Information
Class description: This class covers the continents of Europe, South America and North America. The content explores geography, culture, history and the Civic core. The Civic core unit traces the foundation of democracy by comparing the governments of Ancient Greece with that of Ancient Rome. It builds on knowledge of these two ancient civilizations developed in sixth grade and provides a bridge from sixth to eighth grade in the Civic core sequence. Class Goal and Objectives: This seventh grade class is designed to build upon content introduced in elementary school and skills obtained in the sixth grade course, World Geography:Asia,Oceania and Africa. The curriculum for this class is based on the benchmarks for the Florida Department of Education Sunshine State Standards for Grades 6-8 in Social Studies. Class Outline (order of instruction): 1st 9weeks: Geography foundations Europe and Russia 1. Present day maps 2. Civic Core 3. Middle Ages 2nd 9weeks: Renaissance Europe Regional Focus 3rd 9weeks: Latin America 4th 9weeks: Canada and the U.S.
