Introduction
This will be an opportunity to investigate what career is out there for you to pursue in the future. Take this time to check out the world of work. You are making choices and decisions right now. These choices and decisions will help or hinder your future. Make the right steps… It takes careful goal-setting and goal planning to build a strong future.
Now is the time because when you register for high school this will be the chance to explore different content areas that could benefit your decision for the future. This WebQuest will help you find out your personality, find a promising career, and start planning your future!

Enter the world of work and complete your packet.
Stop -Number 3 -Exploring Careers
Now that you know a little more about yourself, you can begin exploring careers that fit your abilities and interests.
Go to the read about the 6 areas of interest and find your match. On the back of your chart, note the three areas that desribe you and three 3 occupations that fit your interests.
Identifying what you might want to be is only the first step. You also need to know what the job is really like, what education you need, and if jobs are available. Check this New York site, and complete the chart for 5 jobs. They may be all in the same area, or in totally different fields.
Stop -Number 4 -Exploring Career Brochures
You will create a career brochure. This brochure should answer various questions. Click to see the general information you need to include in your Brochure. Before you create your own brochure, take a look at some samples that are available on the web. In your packet is a copy of the Career Brochure Rubric, a worksheet to evaluate four brochures, and a links sheet. Have fun and jot down any ideas you find that will help you in creating your own personal brochure!!!

Your teacher will give you a worksheet and explain what is needed to complete all the tasks. You will have a great time finding out information about careers from an on-line article, the classified section of the newspaper, and the Yellow Pages. By the way, can you answer this question - "What is the difference between a job and a career?"
Stop -Number 6 - Decision Making

This stop is a quick but important one because decision making is a critical skill. Career decision making is a dynamic and ongoing process where your knowledge of self, your values, interests, temperament, financial needs, physical work requirements or limitations, etc., the effects of past experiences, new information, and changes in your life situation and environment all intertwine. It requires constant review of decisions already made and consideration of decisions yet to be made. What are the steps to good decision making? Why is it important? Take a look at this link - Advising Resource Center and get a good idea on what decision making entails. Now create a Decision Making Guide for a fourth grade elementary student.
Stop -Number 7 - Goal Setting
On this stop you will explore "How to Set Goals." One of the most important things you will do during the career planning process is set goals. What is a goal? A goal is something you want to achieve. You have to be willing to put forth effort (work) to reach your goals. You should have long-term and short-term goals. Long-term goals can take about three-five years to achieve. Short term goals can be reached in one-three years.

Take this 20 minute tutorial from About Goal Setting. As you read write the seven steps in your own words. Use the cornell note taking strategy or make an outline. You will share notes or outline with your reading buddy and teacher.
